(MARCH 2013) -- Former Principal, Patricia DiCenso, resigned to become Pawtucket, RI's Chief of School Performance officer. Assistant Principal, James Nelson, was appointed her successor. He was the vice principal at Rogers for the last four years. He previously taught for eighteen years as a Social Studies teacher in New York City, then moving to Providence, RI where he spent twelve years teaching Math at Central High School. He is a graduate of New York University with a Masters of Education from Providence College. His leadership style will emphasize mutual respect and fairness. He will be a tireless advocate for RHS. With Mr. Nelson becoming Principal a void was made at the vice Principal position. Enter a 1981 graduate of Rogers High School, Christianne Fisher. Ms. Fisher has twenty plus years of teaching experience in the field of Science in an urban high school in Providence, RI. She has also been a Director of Annual Fund and Alumni Relations in Malden, Massachusetts. She has been a very effective educator and an experienced leader which will positively continue at Rogers. The 2011 Rogers High School football team won the Division III State Championship in December. The powerful Vikings beat Aquidneck Island rival Middletown High School, 27 to 7, in Cranston. The Vikings were well coached by Frank Newsome, RHS '91 with support from Rick Fullerton, RHS '66, Wally Christensen, RHS '72, Coach Morgera, RHS '84, Chris Lewia, RHS '92 and Andrew Martucci, RHS '02. Henry Richard Hole, 67, died January 8, 2012. Rick was a 1963 graduate who excelled in basketball, football, and baseball as a student at Rogers. After college, Rick returned to Newport and began a life long career in the Newport school system. Rick served as a Physical Education teacher and coach from 1968 - 1987. In 1987, he was named RHS Athletic Director where he stayed until his retirement in 1996. Also in 1996, he earned the Athletic Director of the Year from the RIIAA. He was later inducted into the City of Newport Sports Hall of Fame. Rick leaves his wife, Jackie Feeney Hole, RHS '62, his three daughters, Jennifer, RHS '87, Heather, RHS '88, and Jonna, RHS '91, five grandchildren, two sisters, Leslie, RHS '66 and Roberta, RHS '68, and one brother John, RHS '70 and many nieces and nephews. His sister "Dede", RHS '65, predeceased him. A true Viking ....a true Viking Family!
